Any instrument that produces music is called musical instruments. The musical instruments originated in parallel to the human origin. The forms of musical instruments changes with human culture. Organology refers to the study of musical instruments. Musical instruments are classified on various basis like the range of instrument, type of music produced, etc. The basic classification is string instruments, percussion instruments and wind instruments. The string instruments include guitar, violin, veena, tres, lute, piano,mandola,zither, etc. Percussion instruments can be categorised into drums and other percussion instruments. The other percussion instruments include ghatham, cowbells, ahoko, handbells, etc. The wind instruments can be categorised into single reed instruments, double reed instruments, single and double reed instruments, free reed instruments, brass instruments, voice and free aerophones. Based on the range the musical instruments are classified into bass, tenor, alto and soprano instruments. Musical instrument played using a keyboard are called keyboard instruments. The keyboard instruments can be classified into chordophones- eg piano, aerophones- eg: pipe organ and reed organ and idiophones- eg: celesta. Any musical instrument that produces music mechanically using electronics is called electronic instruments. Few electronic instruments are electronic guitar, computer, synthesiser, electronic organ, etc. Construction of musical instrument is a very tedious job. It requires specialised skills, practise and training.
