First and the foremost fact about music is, it is not something to be learned from the books. Music has to be learned from a tutor with all sincerity and devotion. The knowledge gained out of consistent hearing of music and constant practice is what that tunes an individual’s talent. In recent times, people are more concerned about the time it takes to learn a particular lesson in music. People also think they can learn a raga by just getting to know the swaras. But that is not the way of learning and gaining expertise in a particular raga. It is said that one has to learn and practice atleast a dozen of songs in a particular raga in order to know the raga perfectly. Since very few people dedicate themselves to the art of music, it is highly difficult to develop the level of expertise the musicians in the earlier days had. Still there are tutors who teach music as an art rather than a way of earning. It is this kind of devotion and sincerity that is making this ancient art form to still live and modify itself according to the modern world.
